چکیده

Internet Service Providers sometimes go to great lengths to minimize dial-up connection times, in order to make the best use of limited resources. Typically they disconnect users after a xed period of complete inactivity, such as 10{15minutes. We propose adaptive time-out policies that take past history into account, and we evaluate some of these policies using a trace from a production environment. We nd that adaptive policies can reduce cumulative connection times and average simultaneous usage by about 10{20% compared to a conservative xed threshold, in exchange for a moderate increase in the number of disconnections that inconvenience the user.

Adaptive Digital Signal Processing JAVA Teaching Tool

This publication presents a JAVA program for teaching the rudiments of adaptive digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and techniques. Adaptive DSP is on of the most important areas of signal processsing, and provides the core algorithmic means to implement applications ranging from mobile telephone speech coding, to noise cancellation, to communication channel equalization. Over the last 3...

An Adaptive Multimode Modulation Modem for Point to Multipoint Broadband Radio

Future broadband fixed wireless access systems for Local Multipoint Distribution Services (LMDS) will use an adaptive multimode modulation in order to provide high data rates with high reliability and high spectral efficiency. The new complex physical layer requires new concepts to meet the requirements of high performance and at the same time to reduce the hardware effort to a reasonable size....

A New Adaptive Algorithm for Bit Allocation in DMT Modems

This paper presents a new algorithm for distributing bits to the subchannels of a DMT modem. The so-called Inverse Robin Hood algorithm converges rapidly and can effectively optimise the overall bit error rate in a non-Gaussian channel. Key-words: Discrete multi-tone modulation, adaptive bit-loading, DSL modems, non-Gaussian channels.

Effective Teleconsulting and Teleconferencing Using Standard DICOM Protocol and Push Technology on Low Bandwidth Connection

Teleconsulting and Teleconferencing is nowadays a strict need for patient follow-up or for medical second opinion. The growing of this kind of techniques for teleconsulting needs an effective way to achieve a fast communication on non-dedicated connection lines. Moreover another prerequisite for this kind of activities is the conformance to DICOM that is the de facto standard for medical image ...

Latency Considerations for Adaptive Modulation in an Interference-free Slow Rayleigh Fading Channel

Adaptive modulation exploits the time-variant channel capacity uctuation of fading channels using a range of di erent modem modes according to Equation 1 and Table1. This is achieved at the cost of some latency penalty, which is quanti ed in this treatise and mitigated by frequency hopping.
